CATHOLIC DAILY DEVOTIONAL TODAY 10 FEBRUARY 2022

TODAY’S TOPIC: OFF-CENTER

SCRIPTURE: …his heart was not entirely with the LORD… 1 Kings 11:4

In today’s passage, Solomon has moved from his center and fallen back to the worship of pagan gods. Under the influence of others, his steadfast faith has grown wobbly, and his heart is no longer unreservedly with the Lord.

When I pray in the pure stillness of early morning, meditating on God’s goodness, I feel him so present! I love God wholeheartedly and promise to give him this day. Then the insistent beep of my phone ruptures the silence, and regrettably, I look at the text message. Thus begins the steady creep of my own will into everything! I make a snap judgment about the message and its sender.

I begin plotting how to align the upcoming meeting to my favor. My ego, my need for my own satisfaction, takes over; I am off my center, and it’s only 8 a.m. Truthfully, I need to pray my morning offering repeatedly throughout the day until it melds into my evening prayer of thanks. Maybe every half hour?

Holy Spirit, help me not to waver.
